Our Trip to Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium

We had a great day at the Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium. The children enjoyed the Space Discovery workshop where they learnt about The James Webb telescope and how rainbows are made. They worked in groups to pack for a space exploration and found out that there were 3 essential things they would need to take into space to stay alive: air, water and food! All the children loved the show in the Planetarium where they learnt facts and information about all the planets and star constellations. The children showed lots of enthusiasm and curiosity as they explored the Science Centre. The children loved dressing up as an astronaut, playing on a huge guitar and crawling inside a giant ear to find out how humans can hear. All the children were so well behaved and represented Abbotts Ann School beautifully! Well done Penguins!

World Book Day

We had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day. We shared lots of books in class and read together with our buddies in Owls. Look at our wonderful costumes!

Super learning in the Spring Term

The children are playing and learning so very well together this term. They always have such super ideas and are really busy! Here are some photos of our learning so far this term.

Our trip to Beaulieu National Motor Museum

We had a wonderful day at Beaulieu National Motor Museum and Palace House. First we visited Palace house where the Governess told us all about the different jobs the servants did in the house a long time ago. We learnt about the job of a footman and a year 1 tried on his jacket. Some girls used the brushes to do some house work!

In the kitchen we counted 35 bells and learnt that they all had different sounds so the servants knew which room they needed to go to. We looked at the old irons, wash tubs and dolly sticks and found out about the food that was eaten in the past by reading a chalkboard menu.

After lunch it was time to go in the Motor museum. Here we were shown a penny farthing bike and learnt that its real name was an 'ordinary'. We saw lots of very old cars and we were amazed that one car made the driver sit at the back and the children at the front! We looked at an old fire engines and saw that the ladder was made out of wood which we all agreed was not a very good idea. We saw lots of old vans, buses and race cars too and we all loved the bright orange Outspan car!

Remembrance Day

The children have been very busy learning about Remembrance day and why we wear poppies at this time of year. They were very curious to find out about all the different coloured poppies and showed lots of creative skills as they painted and made their own poppies. The Year 1 children worked together to make their own Remembrance cross to mark this important day.

Our wonderful learning

The children have been so busy learning and playing together in Penguin Class. They are showing lots of courage as they explore the world around them and try new things. Here are some photos of some of their fantastic learning so far this year!

Harvest Scarecrow Art

Year 1 Penguins used painting and collage to create their own scarecrow artwork to celebrate Harvest.
