Chair of Governors Child Protection Resources Sub Committee

I joined the governing body as a Parent Governor in 2013 so that I could use my experience to help the school to be the best it possibly can be for the children. As a lawyer I sit on many professional committees and am experienced in reviewing very detailed policies and proposals, which at Abbotts Ann School are always tied back to our objective of ensuring the school is an ambitious, stimulating, fun and safe learning environment for all of our children.

I have sat on both the School Improvement and Resources sub-committees and have particular responsibility for safeguarding. I was delighted to be elected as the Chair of Governors in 2015. Leading such a strong team of school governors is a real privilege and we are all very excited about continuing to maintain and build upon our high standards, and also nurturing the rather special community ethos that is, in my view, a cornerstone of our small school.

Training Liaison Governor Resources (Chair)

18th July 2018

Having been a parent governor previously, I have experienced first-hand the importance of having a strong governing body that both supports and challenges the school, how this can help to keep our children safe, encourage them to learn, and give them the best possible educational environment. I wanted to be able to bring this experience to Abbotts Ann, as I truly believe this to be a great school for our children.

I really enjoy giving my spare time and energy to the local community, and play an active role in the Abbotts Ann Parents’; Association. I was also chair of a scout group for many years. Professionally, I am a chartered engineer at a

multi-national oil company.

I originally joined the governing body back in 2010 so that I could help appoint a new head teacher. I have stayed on since and really enjoy my role. I am keen to support the school leadership team by being a critical friend. As the Chair of the School Improvement Committee I help to evaluate and monitor policies, the full range of the curriculum and children's progress. I have 2 child at the school and am passionate about the importance of Primary Education.

I was originally a parent governor but moved over to authority as I am a Head teacher in a neighbouring county.

3rd February 2017

I became a Governor so that I could increase my strategic role within school and so that I could represent the staff of the school on the governing body. I enjoy being a part of the schools decision-making processes and furthering my knowledge and understanding of the running management of the school. I have worked in Abbotts Ann since 2007. I started at the school teaching in Owls class and over the past 7 years, I have also taught in Dolphins class and now in Hedgehogs. I became Deputy Head teacher in 2009 and enjoy the challanges that this brings. I am originally from Wales (I’m very patriotic!) and live in Andover with my 2 boys.

I became a Governor to help shape and continually improve a really great school. I am passionate about being part of a team that can really make a difference to our children's future through education. I run my own business so have a diverse range of skills from financial management to creative thinking as well as management experience, all of which serve me well for the role.

13th November 2019

I became a Governor in the hope that my experience in training and education would be of some benefit to the school and its pupils.

I have lived in Abbotts Ann for over 40 years and worked at the local college, Cricklade, since 1976. I have also been a Magistrate for the Wiltshire Commission since 1997 and have enjoyed the variety of work which I see every day.

I am sure that this new venture for me in supporting the school and its pupils will be of mutual benefit to all who wish the school continued success.
